winter skincare favourites 🧴❄️

Long time no see. 🌝 I didn’t feel very inspired in the past few weeks and thought I’d give myself some time off blogging around Christmas and New Year and dive back in with something light and lovely in January. Like skincare. 💆🏻‍♀️ 🧴

We spent NYE and my birthday in Paris and London and although it wasn’t significantly colder there than in Berlin, my skin was SO DRY to a point where my face actually hurt. Maybe it was the water, the airplane aircon, or the dry air in hotels, museums, shops – I don’t know. In any case, my skin was feeling rough and these products helped me a lot. ✨

# day cream : lush celestial *

I had never tried any lush moisturizers before and I wouldn’t have thought I’d end up liking this one, to be honest. I usually opt for gels and less heavy face creams. Celestial is for sensitive skin – which mine normally isn’t. So at first I wasn’t sure if this would clog my pores or make me break out. But: It is just perfect. My skin can be on the brink of irritated during colder/dryer weather – especially during the heating period. This face cream really soothes my skin without being too rich. It gives me a slight shine, which doesn’t bother me though, but I’m mentioning it in case you’re looking for something mattifying. It is also a very good base for concealer and powder (my usual face make-up) which then also gets rid of dat shine. 🤡

# lip salve : natura rosmarincreme

Probably the first skincare product I got ever introduced to (as a little child). My mum always used this – always had a tub in her handbag, one in the kitchen, one in the bathroom, one near her bed. It was her miracle salve for chapped lips, dry patches or small skin lesions. I grew up with this cream and I kept using it long after I started buying my own skincare products instead of just using what was in our family bathroom. I do try out other lip treatments now and again, but I always come back to this cream. Especially when your lips are seriously dry or chapped, this stuff is absolutely amazing. I put it on in the evening before I go to bed and let it do its magic over night. 🧙🏻‍♀️

# serum : decléor rose serum*

This was sent to me to try out. Otherwise I wouldn’t habe acquired “a serum” I think. 👀 I’m still not a hundred percent sure what serums are actually supposed to ~ do ~ …, but apparently they have extremely moisturizing properties, because they’re able to penetrate deeply into the skin. And I can definitely attest to that. [Not to the depths of penetration (um) necessarily, but to the serum being very moisturizing.] My skin is always very happy when I’ve used this serum. I apply it right after I’ve washed my face at night, when it is still a bit damp. It also smells luxuriously rosy – applying it is almost (aroma)therapeutic. 🌹

# night cream : weleda iris night cream

What I also always steered clear of is (very rich) night cream, because I thought it’d break me out or cause blemishes. It doesn’t. Quite the contrary. As I’ve gotten older (yes, I actually just said that) my skin became more sensitive and sometimes even itchy – especially around the jawline (for some strange reason idk). So I got into the habit of applying a night cream after washing my face at night – I apply this on top of the serum I previously mentioned. I don’t know if that’s the right way to do it, but I always feel like the cream locks the serum in and it can do its thing better … yanno? #pleasedontquotemeonthat

# face mask : cattier clay mask

A clay face mask might seem a bit counter intuitive after I’ve been banging on about how sensitive and dry my skin is during winter. But I don’t think this mask is very drying or stripping at all (surprisingly enough). I use it every two to three weeks. I find it relaxing and cooling – especially after I’ve been out on a run and before I hop into the shower. The skin of my face always feels very “clean“ after I’ve taken the mask off under warm running water and drinks up my moisturizer eben better afterwards.

And that, ladies and gents and everyone else with a face, is it. These were my winter skincare favourites – I hope you either learned something new or had a good laugh about how little I know about skincare. Either way is fine.
Take care, see you next time! ❤️
